New Jersey’s Vaping Crisis is Worsening With Each Passing Day

Vaping has become that much more popular among youngsters in recent years and months.  Though the word is spreading about how vaping compromises human health, people are still indulging with vaporizers.  Sadly, hundreds of patients throughout the United States and New Jersey have been stricken with the mysterious lung illness medical professionals assume is the result of using vaporizers.  The bulk of such patients were fairly healthy yet showed up in hospital emergency rooms and urgent care centers with shortness of breath, fatigue and coughing.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a public statement recognizing the first known death related to the use of vaporizers and e-cigarettes.  The group promised a comprehensive investigation to fully understand why the death occurred and the potential cause of the illnesses.  If you, a family member, a friend or anyone else you value have come down with an illness or injury related to vaping, our legal team is here to help obtain the compensation you need and deserve.

The Basics of Vaporizers and E-cigarettes

E-cigarettes, commonly referred to as e-cigs, are often referred to as vaporizers, vape pens and vapes for short.  Vaping, sometimes called juuling, is the inhalation of vapor generated by a vaping device such as an e-cigarette.  E-cigarettes are battery powered as opposed to being charged by USBs that is commonly used with a cartridge containing liquid.  Such liquid can be flavored with THC, nicotine or another substance with an oil base.  The battery warms the cartridge to generate the vapor to be inhaled.

Though some insist vaping is healthier than traditional cigarettes, there is no reliable scientific proof of such claims.  The bottom line is vaping is fairly new so we do not fully understand it.  However, the health and scientific communities are well aware of the fact that nicotine is quite addictive.  Vapor is inhaled straight into the user’s lungs so there is the potential to cause irritation and considerable damage.

Vaping Risks and Illnesses

Countless people in New Jersey  and the rest of the nation have endured illnesses and/or conditions related to vaping says Richard Schibell.  Some vape-related illnesses are mild while others are deadly.  The New Jersey Department of Health issued a statewide health alert to health departments and healthcare providers detailing the vaping situation.  The CDC recommends vape users and healthcare providers are aware of the many symptoms related to the use of vaporizers: Fever, fatigue, weight loss, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, chest pain, shortness of breath and excessive coughing.  Some vape users developed symptoms across a period of a couple days while others developed symptoms across a period of several weeks.  Medical professionals noted pulmonary infections are not the cause of the forementioned health problems as the symptoms do not improve after antibiotics are provided.

Vaping Illness, Personal Injuries and Product Liability

A lawsuit recently filed in New Jersey against Juul, one of the most popular manufacturers of e-cigarettes, insinuates the businesses failed to warn users about the health impact and risks of using Juul vaporizers.  The health ramification and risks range from addiction to nicotine to a spike in blood pressure, brain alterations, cardiovascular changes and beyond.  The plaintiff also states permanent brain injury resulted from the addiction to Juul products.  The moral of the story is the vaping industry is perfectly willing to prioritize profits over innocent customers.  Our state is in the midst of a vaping health epidemic.  We must hold the manufacturers of vaporizers accountable by filing lawsuits based on product liability laws.
